You should take warm water and rubbing alcohol. And you can use a toothbrush or cotton swab. Dip a cotton swab in alcohol and gently rub it on charging points. Ensure you are not using hard or metallic stuff that can damage the charging contacts. After cleaning, dry it with a tissue or clean cloth.

If your Garmin Fenix 5 Plus previously charged, then this problem is probably just due to dirty connectors. Use a piece of tissue paper and lightly dip it in rubbing alcohol and gently clean

I show you how to fix a Garmin Forerunner 935 or 945 that is not charging or has charging issues. Hope this helps. In this video I am using a Forerunner 935:

In my case, both times it has been a Tactix Charlie, but there’s no forum for that wearable and the Fenix 5 series has the same charging contacts, so that’s why I’m posting here. After my first Charlie stopped working after about 2 years and had the very pitted charging contacts, I paid Garmin $200 for a refurbished replacement.
The charging controller in the Fenix 6 only draws as much power as it can handle. Usually you can connect any charger with an USB port. Fast charging charges with higher power, which increases the wear…. Fenix 5, corrosion on charge port pins. pecarlsen over 4 years ago. Hi, I have a Fenix 5 (slate grey) from September 2018, so just around six months old. It has become a bit fiddly with regards to getting a good connection on the port. Took a peek and it seemed like there was some dirt on the connector. Wiped it down, still there.
If your Fenix is still not responding, you have charged it thoroughly; you should check the charging cable. It might be faulty or not connected securely. Also, make sure to use the original Garmin charging cable. Using the local charging cable can cause damage to the battery life or prevent charging.
sschoell over 4 years ago. Since a few weeks, I have a problem with my Fenix 5. When I connect it to a computer (Windows 10), the watch is not recognized as a device (i.e. does not show up at all in the Explorer) - its also not shown in connected USB devices. It does charge however. Tried on three different computers with two different cables. When you cannot power on your Fenix or it will not charge when you plug it into charge, a soft reset with it unplugged and then plugging it into charge will often resolve the issue. Not 100% of the time since the issue could be a battery failure or other hardware issues but more than not the steps are successful. Settings->System->USB Mode->Garmin. You are most likely in Mass Storage mode. When in Garmin mode, you should be able to continue an activity. If I recall, if in Garmin mode and plugged in it will ask if you want to continue in Garmin or switch mode - obviously stick with Garmin.
