The Canon EF 35mm F2 IS USM is an understated jewel of a lens, and one that we've enjoyed on a variety of cameras since its release almost five years ago. Its relatively small size and image stabilization make it a versatile tool for a variety of photography - check out our sample gallery.

Handling. I enjoy the GFX format but also appreciate a compact setup which is a bit of an oxymoron. The Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 paired with the GFX 50R makes for a fairly compact setup and at 15 oz, 425 g, it is less than half the weight of its two 85mm siblings, the Canon EF 85mm f/1.4 L IS and 85mm f/1.2 L II.
The image quality of the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Lens is similar to that of the far more expensive Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM Lens at 50mm at the same aperture settings. In fact, I would give the edge in corner image quality to the 50mm f/1.4 from f/2.8 to f/4.0. This is probably my favorite lens, or one of them, at least.
With the release of the new 35mm f/1.4L II USM, however, Canon appears to be taking direct aim at Sigma. Just as I was about to upgrade to the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L or the Zeiss 35/1.4

A standard Canon rear lens cap lives on the back. It weighs just over 36 pounds. It is nearly 3' long. The front opening is 9" wide. The Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens weighs 3.28 lb. Many “pro” lenses feature 77mm filters—the 77mm is a full 6" smaller than the gaping circle at the front of this Canon.
