Hello! A while back I remember hearing that Mazda USA would be supporting the optional addition of Apple CarPlay and Android auto to 2014 and newer Mazdas. I was initially not too interested in CarPlay for my 2016 IGT 3 but after helping my mom purchase a new CX-30 with CarPlay, I became fond of the google maps and Spotify connectivity options.
That said, you can save yourself money and DIY it for $200~. From what ive seen you need to take off the trim from the passenger seat (above the glove box), then take out the covers to the shifter and middle console because you’ll need to see the wiring and replace the usb from 1.0 to 2.0, and you’ll need to update the Mazda’s software. Both USB ports would work with Apple Carplay. And Sync 3 is the system for Ford vehicles. I would recommend to enable Bluetooth and remove any vehicles under the car play setting (General > Carplay) in your IPhone. Then try again. It could also be a faulty cable. Try to locate a different OEM USB A to lighting cable.The upgrade is priced at $199 plus labor, though exactly how much you'll pay depends on your dealership. 91 posts · Joined 2020. #5 · Sep 11, 2022. I did it for $150 on my 2016. I bought the genuine Mazda OEM USB port and cables for CarPlay and installed it myself. No more difficult than changing a car radio unit. Plenty of installation videos online. The car feels 5 years newer with CarPlay.
